hofer powertrain, one of Europe’s leading engineering and technology partners for hybrid and electric drivetrain and system solutions, is expanding its technology and development expertise to Brazil. Within the framework of Brazil’s MOVER program, which supports local manufacturers in their transition to electromobility, hofer powertrain provides the foundation for efficient and sustainable industrialization through licensable key technologies. Many of these technologies are already successfully deployed in established vehicle models from leading automotive manufacturers.

“The MOVER program creates the foundation for building independent expertise in electric drivetrain systems in Brazil. Through its licensing and Tech Assist model, hofer powertrain combines European development excellence with Brazilian manufacturing capabilities, creating a forward-looking concept for sustainable and scalable mobility. With a comprehensive IP portfolio comprising more than 100 patents and protected development platforms, hofer powertrain covers the entire value chain of electric drivetrain systems — from power electronics and software to electric machines and fully integrated drivetrain systems. Its patented 3-level TNPC inverter solutions enable maximum efficiency with reduced switching losses and minimized EMC emissions, making them ideally suited for high-voltage architectures. In combination with the modular PE250 and PE350 power units and the integrated ONEboard™ technology, which consolidates control and driver functions on a compact board, this results in a highly efficient platform for scalable e-drive systems.

In the field of electric machines, hofer powertrain sets new benchmarks in power density and thermal performance with its EM-220 hairpin winding technology. This is complemented by advanced rotor and stator simulations, optimized magnetic materials and efficient manufacturing processes designed to localize production. In the battery domain, hofer powertrain also offers a mechatronic disconnect unit — one of the smallest of its kind worldwide — for which there is currently no comparable alternative on the market, featuring integrated safety and diagnostic functions as well as thermally optimized housing solutions. In addition, hofer powertrain provides cost-optimized fully electric drivetrain systems as well as hybrid solutions designed to significantly reduce BOM and production costs. A standout example is the XinONE drivetrain and battery solutions, which completely eliminate the conventional low-voltage battery and enable a new level of efficiency. The company is also currently developing an extremely cost- and space-efficient P1.5 hybrid drivetrain system.

These and further technologies form the basis for licensable system packages that enable Brazilian OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to develop their own locally manufactured electric drivetrain platforms within a very short time frame.
