ACHEMA 2015 – VITRONIC to launch optical solution for the inspection of empty vials

At stand E31 in Hall 3.1, VITRONIC will present its most recent innovations in the quality inspection of injection bottles

(PresseBox) (Wiesbaden, )
VITRONIC, Europe's leading supplier of machine vision solutions, will unveil its new VINSPEChealthcare system for inspecting empty vials at this year's ACHEMA exhibition. This latest innovation in the healthcare area further enhances VITRONIC's optical vial inspection portfolio.

Empty vial inspection to optimize process costs and reliability
Injection bottles need to be cleaned, dried and sterilized before being filled. This process causes stress to the material. That's where the VINSPEChealthcare empty vial inspection solution from VITRONIC come into play, by ensuring that only defect-free vials are filled with product. Machine downtime, e.g. due to glass breakage, is avoided and scrappage during downstream process steps is reduced. This yields significant cost reduction and resource conservation, particularly for expensive, high-quality pharmaceutical products. When vials are filled with biological substances, such as blood plasma, ethical considerations must also be taken into account.
The new VINSPEC solution is implemented with a modular design combining a bottom inspection station and a sidewall inspection station. When both stations are used simultaneously, this ensures a seamless, overlapping inspection area. A sophisticated illumination and multiple image acquisition concept provides reliable detection of glass defects and particles.
The new inspection system from VITRONIC, which can be integrated into new or existing lines, inspects injection bottles with a diameter between 16 and 43 mm and a bottle height between 34 and 73 mm with consistently sharp images. It can inspect up to 6 vials per second in production.

More innovation in VINSPEChealthcare with crimping quality inspection
In pharmaceutical vial production, it is essential to ensure that the vials are not only filled correctly, but also that the containers are free from defects and that the caps and crimp edges are of a high quality and positioned correctly. The VITRONIC system performs a fast and accurate quality inspection of the cap, including the crimping and cap skirt, using a special patented 360° lens. Just one setup and a single camera provide a direct view of the cap from above, a 360° panoramic view of the vial, and a view of the crimp edge from below. Mechanical rotation of the products is not required. An enhancement of the sensor system in the VINSPEChealthcare crimping quality inspection solution means you can now quickly switch the system's inspection parameters between small cap diameters and large cap diameters. As a result, the system is always optimally configured for each inspection, which in turn guarantees the most accurate inspection results.
Further exhibits at stand E31 in Hall 3.1 will offer an insight into practical applications of the VINSPEChealthcare solutions for vial inspection. Experts from VITRONIC will of course be on-hand each day of the exhibition to answer individual questions and provide advice on any specific issues you may have.

Company Profile
VITRONIC is an owner-managed group of companies comprising VITRONIC GmbH with its headquarters in Wiesbaden and several international subsidiaries. The group is a world leader in industrial machine vision covering a wide spectrum from standard products with customer-specific upgradeable modules to individually customized solutions in its core sectors of industry, logistics and traffic technology.
Since VITRONIC was founded in 1984 it has grown on the strength of its own resources. Today we are represented by 700 employees on four continents. In 2014, the VITRONIC Group generated total revenue of more than 110 million euros.
VITRONIC products are state-of-the-art and are guaranteed to offer our customers maximum benefits. The group invests over 10 percent of total revenue each year in research and development. All VITRONIC solutions are designed and developed by ourselves and manufactured in Germany.

Industry and logistics
VITRONIC machine vision systems are used in a wide range of industrial appli-cations to carry out precise or complex inspection tasks. Our automated solutions ensure the highest quality standards of welded and brazed seams and are used, for example, in the automotive and aerospace industries. We also offer flexible surface quality inspection for metal workpieces.
We support the pharmaceutical industry with seamless print, surface and geometry inspection systems, quality inspection and track-and-trace inspection solutions – which can also be validated thanks to our GAMP certification. For manufacturers of solar cells and modules, we are one of the largest independent partners for optical inspection systems, with over 1,000 installations worldwide.
Our customers in the area of material flow, parcel logistics and mail order seek to optimize their logistics processes. VIPAC systems from VITRONIC can be integrated at any point along the process chain for the automatic capture of product data, package data and customer-specific data. VIPAC reads addresses, barcodes, 2D codes, customer-specific codes and plain text (OCR) with maximum read rates, and measures and weighs packages online. This information is sent directly to the connected ERP system or CRM solution.
VIPAC systems are used by global logistics companies in the courier, express and parcel sector and in mail order, warehousing and distribution, and the manufacturing industry.

Traffic technology
VITRONIC's core competency in the traffic technology sector is the monitoring of vehicles in moving traffic. With our PoliScan family of products, we offer national agencies and private service providers systems for speed enforcement, red light enforcement and license plate reading. Toll system operators use our TollChecker system to automate toll collection and enforcement.
All VITRONIC traffic monitoring systems are based on laser scanner measurement technology (LIDAR, Light Detection and Ranging). This innovation enables high-precision measurements over several lanes of traffic and eliminates the need to integrate equipment into the road surface. Thanks to the benefits offered by LIDAR technology, more than 5,000 VITRONIC laser scanners are currently used in traffic monitoring across the globe.
