As a full-service provider of NODIG technology, it is important for TRACTO not only to supply its customers with first-class new machines for all areas of trenchless construction, but also to offer all associated services. Since 2018, this portfolio has also included a separate area for used equipment called TRACTO Used Equipment. After all, not every customer wants to buy a new machine right away, for example if they are adding NODIG technology to their portfolio for the first time and cannot yet estimate how much the machine will be used. There are also significant differences in the investment behaviour of companies in different countries, with some preferring used equipment.
One-stop-shop solution, repair and refurbishment
In addition, it is possible that companies change their range of application or specialise, resulting in the need for a NODIG system with different performance characteristics. The sale of one machine and the purchase of another often go hand in hand, so it is a great advantage if TRACTO's Used Equipment team can act as the link between sales and TRACTO Finance in both transactions.
The team, led by Björn Freimuth, Manager Used Equipment since 2023, not only buys and sells used machines, but also relieves the customer of the work and organisation involved in these processes. For example, by finding a used NODIG machine that is suitable for the customer's particular tasks and requirements, then inspecting it and professionally overhauling or repairing it. As well as using the TRACTO distribution network, they also use their own TRACTO Used channels to sell used machines.
Transparent purchase / trade-in process:
The impulse for the purchase of a machine usually comes from the sales department, with which TRACTO Used works hand in hand. The first step is to evaluate the machine, which may have been manufactured by TRACTO or another company. This is done quickly and is transparent and comprehensible at all times: "We start by getting an initial overview of the current value of the machine in question, looking at photos and key figures such as age and operating hours," explains Björn Freimuth.
If necessary, a detailed technical assessment is then carried out by TRACTO Used or the local service partner, who receive the relevant specifications from their colleagues. The value of the trade-in will then be determined and communicated to the customer and to the sales representative dealing with the case. The service package includes a detailed documentation of the valuation. If the customer agrees, TRACTO buys the machine without any complications.
Machines for every application
If you are looking for the right used machine, you can find most of the machines in the web shop or you can contact TRACTO Used for a specific model. The used machines that are available there are divided into four levels according to the condition they are in. Level 1 means that a machine has not been reconditioned and will be returned unprocessed as a spare parts carrier. A Level 2 classification means that the machine is in a serviceable condition, while a Level 3 classification means that the machine is in working order and has been technically overhauled by the TRACTO Used team.
Level 4 machines have also been technically overhauled and are no more than 7 years old. These used machines can be covered by a used machine warranty, the 'TRACTO Certified Used Equipment', for 12 months. This means that customers can be sure that they are receiving a machine that has been tested and overhauled to TRACTO specifications and can benefit from a one-year warranty.
Quick access to used machines
A dedicated app allows the global sales team to view available used equipment on their mobile phones at any time, and to easily offer it to potential customers. Webshop sales are further accelerated by access to one of the world's largest construction equipment platforms. Digital tools are also used to match supply and demand.
If the customer is interested, a quotation is immediately prepared and the customer is fully advised before the sale is finalised. Before a sold used machine leaves the company, it is fully inspected to internal specifications and overhauled if necessary. As with new machines, customers receive training on delivery and can also take part in training courses; the necessary knowledge transfer takes place via the sales department to the respective partners in the regions.
Many financing options
Used machines can also be financed through various options, although there may be restrictions if the machines are over 15 years old. Operating leases are only available for machines up to 7 years old, but for older machines there are a number of loan options available.
This means that customers who buy used machines from TRACTO can benefit from the same service as customers who buy new machines and thus expand their knowledge of trenchless technology. For TRACTO itself, the trade-in of used machines offers the opportunity to open up new markets and customer groups with these machines and to further develop the NODIG technology in this way.
