GRUNDODRILL 20N: Efficient 200 kN Jet Drilling Rig Designed for Reduced Effort in Demanding HDD Projects

Advanced rod and automation concept increases efficiency and productivity in utility network construction

(PresseBox) (Lennestadt, )
With the new GRUNDODRILL 20N, TRACTO presents a powerful jet drilling rig that is based on a proven concept and specifically designed for greater efficiency, process reliability and productivity in complex HDD projects. In response to the increased demands of infrastructure expansion, the GRUNDODRILL 20N has been developed in two model variants with different rod lengths.

From practice for practice: user-driven development

TRACTO has been developing solutions for trenchless pipeline construction for decades and continuously applies its extensive practical experience to improve its machine technology. This is also the case with the GRUNDODRILL 20N. The 20-tonne drilling rig is the logical advancement of the GRUNDODRILL 18N, which has established itself over many years as a reliable and powerful HDD drilling rig in the medium performance segment. Against this backdrop, TRACTO systematically analysed the requirements of drilling crews, project managers and contractors to incorporate them into the further development.

The result of this user-driven development process is a highly efficient jet drilling rig that impresses with its reliability and productivity in everyday construction site operations. “The GRUNDODRILL 20N embodies our philosophy of developing technology from practice for practice,” says Philipp Schrage from TRACTO Product Management. “It offers our customers a powerful and economical solution for carrying out even the most demanding HDD projects in a safe, efficient and forward-looking manner.”

Efficiency and operational reliability for modern distribution network construction

The GRUNDODRILL 20N was developed for distribution network construction projects involving different soils, complex site conditions and high economic demands. With a thrust / pulling force of 200 kN and a powerful, continuously adjustable torque of up to 10,000 Nm, this drilling rig offers the necessary power reserve to work consistently and efficiently even under difficult conditions.

A key feature of the GRUNDODRILL 20N is its optimised rod and automation concept, which has been applied to two models: The standard model can work flexibly with 3-metre-long TwinDrive rods with a diameter of either 72 mm or 83 mm. Model 4.5 is equipped with 60 TD82 rods, each 4.5 metres long. This allows long drilling distances to be achieved with significantly shorter set-up times – a clear advantage for projects with tight deadlines. The fully automated rod exchange system reduces the operator's workload on both models, ensuring consistent, reproducible workflows – a decisive factor for productivity and safety in complex drilling projects.

Additionally, the GRUNDODRILL 20N takes the strain off the drill rig operator with serial assistance systems that simplify and optimise the drilling process. Digital support for project documentation and an ergonomically designed, rotatable comfort cabin with modern controls help to minimise downtime and increase productivity per construction site. This means that even with demanding projects, the focus always remains on optimum progress with maximum operating comfort.

TRACTO's new GRUNDODRILL 20N is a powerful and flexible HDD drilling rig developed in collaboration with customers to meet the demands of modern distribution network construction. The cost-effectiveness of this drilling rig is further enhanced by individual financing solutions and a hands-on service. The 20N has already passed its first practical tests easily.
