NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) gibt heute die Verfügbarkeit seines Mikrocontrollers LPC1788 als Samples im Juni bekannt. Es handelt sich hierbei um den ersten ARM® Cortex(TM) -M3-basierten Mikrocontroller mit integriertem LCD-Controller, der im Laufe des Jahres 2011 in Produktionsstückzahlen ausgeliefert wird. Ausgestattet mit bis zu 96 KB On-Chip-SRAM und einer 32 Bit breiten externen Speicherschnittstelle gibt die LPC178x-Serie den Kunden Gelegenheit, ihre Applikationen auf einfache und kosteneffektive Weise durch hochwertige Grafik aufzuwerten. Dank der Unterstützung eines breiten Spektrums an grafikfähigen Display-Panels bietet die LPC178x-Serie ideale Voraussetzungen für industrielle Automatisierungssysteme, Point-of-Sale-Lösungen und medizinische Diagnose-Applikationen.

Das LCD-Interface verfügt über einen eigenen DMA-Controller und kann somit unabhängig von der CPU und anderen Systemfunktionen arbeiten. Ein eingebauter FIFO-Speicher fungiert als Puffer für Displaydaten, was mehr Flexibilität für das System-Timing ergibt. Die hardwaremäßige Cursor-Unterstützung kann außerdem die Rechenzeit, die die CPU für das Display aufwenden muss, verringern. Die LPC178x-Mikrocontroller von NXP unterstützen grafikfähige Displays in STN? (Super-Twisted Nematic) und TFT-Technik (Thin-Film Transistor), mit bis zu 1.024 x 768 Pixeln und von monochrom bis zur True-Color-Farbtiefe von 24 Bit.
Die LPC178x-MCUs werden mit 120 MHz getaktet und besitzen bis zu 512 KB Flash, 96 KB SRAM und 4 KB EEPROM auf dem Chip. Der externe Speicher-Controller mit 32 Bit Breite unterstützt SDRAM?, NOR? und SRAM-Bausteine mit vier Chip-Selects.
Zu den weiteren Peripheriefunktionen der Serien LPC178x und LPC177x gehören ein Host/Device-fähiger USB-Controller, ein 10/100T Ethernet-Controller, ein Anti-Tampering Event Recorder, ein achtkanaliger GPDMA-Controller (General-Purpose DMA), 12-Bit ADCs, ein 10-Bit DAC, ein PWM? und Quadrature-Encoder-Interface für Motorregelungen, fünf UARTs, drei I2C-Schnittstellen, I2S, drei SSP/SPI-Ports, ein Smart Card Interface, vier Timer, ein Windowed Watchdog Timer, eine extrem wenig Strom aufnehmende RTC sowie bis zu 165 GPIO-Pins (General Purpose I/O).
