The survey, entitled 'Decarbonisation of European industry: perceptions, barriers and solutions', provides a comprehensive overview of the steps taken by European SMEs to address the low-carbon transition.
Among the key findings of the survey 94% of industrial decision-makers believe that decarbonisation is compatible with their business, and 43% have already taken concrete action.
The main barriers identified by respondents are the complexity of the proposed solutions (32%) and the level of investment required (27%).
Of those that have taken steps to decarbonise, 92% are turning to renewable energy to replace fossil fuels with lower carbon solutions, with solar energy, energy storage and heat pumps the most popular.
Finally, 59% of executives believe that recent political rhetoric is slowing down their decarbonisation efforts.
