Under the ceiling fresco of the Imperial Hall of the Munich Residence, aptly themed “Reason and Virtue,” ibidi was honored for its outstanding family-friendly policies and corporate strength. The innovative high-tech company deliberately softens the rigid divide between family and career. This approach provides employees with strong support in managing their personal realities—and secures the loyalty of highly qualified professionals for the mid-sized company. The success of this philosophy is reflected in low staff turnover, minimal sick leave, and a high “family & friends” referral rate in new hires.
ibidi is a world leader in innovative cell analysis and diagnostics. Its smart tools enable brilliant insights into the living system of cells—without animal testing. Founded in 2001 by young scientists from the academic environment of Munich’s TUM and LMU universities, ibidi is now considered a technology driver in biomedical research. Leading academic and industrial laboratories around the world use the high-performance products to advance medicine, biology, pharmacy, and other life sciences. To date, over 46,000 publications in the most prestigious scientific journals have been produced using ibidi tools.
"Our employees themselves are convinced that they work in the most family-friendly company in the industry! We are delighted that our efforts to support a good balance between family— in all its forms— and a fulfilling professional life are now receiving public recognition," says Iris Hauerwaas, Head of HR. “What matters are the many levers we have as a company to create a culture of give and take.”
This is precisely what impressed the jury the most and led them to select ibidi from among 240 applicants across all industries and company sizes for the top tier of employers. ibidi successfully fosters a culture of high performance and appreciation through a comprehensive set of measures.
Dr. Roman Zantl, who has been managing the company together with Dr. Valentin Kahl since it was jointly founded, places fundamental emphasis on a lived mindset: "Company and family must understand each other's needs. Openness and courage are essential in this dialogue. Once there is mutual understanding, it becomes possible to find balanced solutions together. That's why we have made this balancing of needs a fixed part of our regular employee appraisals."

The corporate award has been presented every two years for the past ten years. The competition was initiated by the Bavarian Ministries of Economic Affairs and Labor in collaboration with the leading business associations: the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, the Bavarian Industry Association, and the Bavarian Crafts Council. The goal is to give greater visibility to positive examples of family-friendly corporate policies. A value-based corporate culture has a proven business impact by increasing productivity, creativity, and reputation — and it also has a broader societal influence.
