USB-Geräte wie Kameras, Messgeräte, Dongles etc. in virtuelle Systeme einzubinden oder über größere Entfernungen hinweg zu betreiben, stellt in der Praxis Integratoren und Anwender häufig vor Probleme: Die USB-Unterstützung der Virtualisierungs-Plattformen ist für professionelle industrielle Anwendungen meist nicht ausreichend stabil realisiert und die maximale Kabellänge von ca. 5m oft viel zu gering.

Der neue USB-Server Gigabit von Wieseman & Theis bietet für solche Fälle die Möglichkeit, USB-Geräte z.B. der Video/Audio- oder Messtechnik über das TCP/IP-Ethernet einzubinden. Der performante CPU-Kern und das Gigabit Netzwerkinterface erlauben es, auch datenintensivere USB-Geräte abgesetzt zu betreiben. Als Windows-seitiges Gegenstück zum USB-Server arbeitet die USB-Umlenkung.
