Der VDI-Innovationsklima-Index ist auf einem historischen Tiefstand. Im vierten Quartal 2008 fiel der Index von 22 auf 15 Punkte. Besonders schlecht ist die Stimmung in der Fahrzeugbranche. Hier bewerten etwa 80 Prozent der befragten Ingenieure die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung ihrer Branche als negativ. Michael Dick, Technikvorstand der Audi AG, warnt indessen vor voreiliger Schwarzmalerei: "Dass sich die aktuelle Eintrübung der Konjunktur auch auf das Innovationsklima auswirkt, war zu erwarten. Wir sollten uns jedoch auf unsere Stärken verlassen.
