With the Act to digitize the energy transformation process (GDEW), Germany is pushing ahead with the introduction of smart meters as local data and control nodes for a smart energy world. However, every digital access must be secured accordingly. Established security procedures, which are already being used successfully in online banking, will be used for this purpose. To securely store and manage the corresponding security certificates from the industry-specific public key infrastructure (called Smart Meter PKI), Teleseo uses a hardware security module (HSM) from Securosys.

The new smart meters according to GDEW consist of a Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW) and
