Für seine bahnbrechenden Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Oberflächenphysik wird Professor Dr. Alexander M. Bradshaw, der Wissenschaftliche Direktor des Max-Planck-Instituts für Plasmaphysik in Garching und Greifswald, mit dem Rudolf Jaeckel-Preis 2007 der Deutschen Vakuum-Gesellschaft (DVG) ausgezeichnet: So gelang es ihm, mit Hilfe von Röntgenstrahlen durch Photoelektronenbeugung die Struktur von Oberflächen sowie anhaftender Moleküle bzw. Molekülbruchstücke quantitativ zu analysieren sowie Reaktionen auf Einkristalloberflächen in-situ zu beobachten. Zugleich würdigt der Preis Alex Bradshaws Verdienste als Wissenschaftlicher Direktor der Berliner Synchrotron-Strahlungsquelle BESSY, die er von 1981 bis 1985 sowie von 1988 bis 1989 leitete, und als Vorsitzender des gemeinsamen Ausschusses Oberflächenphysik von DVG pvt Vrtnxstgh Ffudufoklxobng Prbmcevxxhuh (NJG).
