Namhafte Automatisierungsanbieter erarbeiten innerhalb der PLCopen einen Standard für sichere Applikationssoftware. Durch die PLCopen-Safety-Spezifikation ist ein Meilenstein zur Standardisierung von sicherheitsgerichteter Applikationssoftware erreicht worden. Die Freigabe der Spezifikation PLCopen Safety erfolgt zur SPS/IPC/Drives 2005 in Nürnberg. Anwender können Software, die die Anforderung dieses Safety-Standards erfüllt, leicht am PLCopen-Compliance-Logo erkennen. Entsprechende Software ist durch einen hohen Qualitätsstandard gekennzeichnet.

KW-Software bietet schon heute eine skalierbare Safety Plattform gemäss IEC 61508 bis SIL3, die den internationalen Qualitätsstandard der PLCopen erfüllt. Zum einen definiert der PLCopen Safety Standard Richtlinien für sichere Programmieroberflächen. Diese Richtlinien werden bereits durch das sichere Progammiersystem Safeprog von KW-Software bvjvrku.
