Der Deutsche Industrie- und Handelskammertag (DIHK) ist die Dachorganisation der bundesweit 80 IHKs. Seine Spitzengremien werden von 14 Fachausschüssen beraten, die mit Experten zu den jeweiligen Bereichen besetzt sind. Der Haushaltsausschuss beschäftigt sich mit den Finanzen des DIHK. Dazu gehören die mittelfristige Finanzplanung sowie der Wirtschaftsplan für das kommende Geschäftsjahr. Der DIHK erreichte 2008 eine Bilanzsumme von über 86 Millionen Euro. Dabei betrug der Jahresüberschuss rund 1,2 Millionen Euro. Zum DIHK gehören darüber hinaus zwei Tochtergesellschaften, unter anderem für Weiterbildung, sowie weitere Beteiligungen. Für den DIHK arbeiten in Berlin und Brüssel knapp190 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter.
