As the founder of the company, he laid the groundwork for everything binder is today: a successful family enterprise in which the people make the difference.

Franz Binder was born the youngest of four children on 22 April 1929 in Neckarsulm. He completed his apprenticeship as a lathe operator at Kolbenschmidt in Neckarsulm in 1947. Following more than ten years at Kolbenschmidt and his successful master’s certificate examination, he entered into self-employment on 1 January 1960. Active in its early years as a workshop for mechanics and turned parts, the binder company began production of circular connectors in 1968. In 1972, binder established its headquarters in Rötelstraße in Neckarsulm. Since the turn of the millennium, the binder Group has developed into an internationally active family-owned business which today employs 1,800 people at 16 locations worldwide. The management of the company was passed on to Markus Binder in 2014. Franz Binder died on 20 May 2019 at the age of 90.

Maintaining his humanity
Franz Binder was not only an outstanding entrepreneur, but also a sincere and firmly rooted person. The welfare of his fellow human beings was dear to his heart – especially that of his employees, to whom his door was always open. Throughout his life, he maintained his humanity, and he set standards in doing so. For Franz Binder, it was always important to cultivate his relationships with ‘his people’. Many of his employees and business partners will surely bear in good memory his statement, ‘If the company is doing well, the people should be doing well.’

A life time of achievement
Markus Binder, executive partner of the binder Group, commented on the death of Franz Binder: ‘My family and I are deeply saddened by this tremendous loss. My father achieved a great lifework. I admire, above all, his courage in making decisions without ever losing sight of his goals.’ Franz Binder’s name will always remain inextricably linked with our company.
