Jülicher Forscher sind Vorreiter der ultrahochauflösenden Elektronenmikroskopie

Mithilfe neuer Methoden in der ultrahochauflösenden Elektronenmikroskopie ist es gelungen, atomare Abstände auf wenige Pikometer genau zu messen. Damit können für die physikalischen Eigenschaften von Materialien entscheidende Größen direkt auf atomarer Ebene im Mikroskop bestimmt werden. Dies berichtet Knut Urban vom Forschungszentrum Jülich, Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, in der neuesten Ausgabe (25. Juli) der renommierten wissenschaftlichen Fachzeitschrift "Science".

Fortschritte bei den Erkenntnissen in der Physik sind sehr häufig mit einer Erhöhung der Genauigkeit von Messungen verbunden, mit denen die Forscher den Naturphänomenen auf der Spur sind.
