BAI starts initiative for discussion of hedge fund-standards in Germany

AGM presented with HFSB-standards

(PresseBox) (Bonn, ) Bundesverband Alternative Investments e.V.(BAI), the German lobby association for the alternative investment industry (i.a. hedge funds and private equity), has started an initiative at its 2008 AGM held in Frankfurt on 19 May 2008 to discuss the introduction of hedge fund-standards in Germany.

BAI presented its members, who include suppliers of hedge funds and private equity as well as investors (e.g. life insurers)and industry consultants, with the standards developed by the London-based Hedge Fund Standards Board. The association stresses the point that equivalents for all relevant parts of these standards already exist under German investment laws. However, it can be discussed if parts of the very detailed HFSBstandards provide starting points for self-regulation of the German AI-industry exceeding the comprehensive legal requirements already in force. With this initiative, the association wants to contribute explicitly to a higher transparency and enhance acceptance of AI in Germany. Also, BAI wants to contribute to the European discussion for stronger self-regulation of the industry.

Information about BAI, its members and the executive board can be found on the association's website at
