Weidmüller KLBUE RC active shield clamp: Shielding on both sides for first time in extensive systems without disruptive compensating currents

Integrated frequency filter reliably discharges interference at the short line end and blocks compensating currents

(PresseBox) (Detmold, )
Weidmüller's KLBUE RC active shield clamp is the first such clamp to allow users to implement shielding on both sides in extensive systems such as those encountered in shipbuilding, rail infrastructure, power stations and process systems. Wherever possible, interference should be discharged at the near line end, but distant ground levels cause undesired and disruptive compensating currents. The new KLBUE RC shield clamp from Weidmüller solves this problem. The integrated high-pass filter blocks lower-frequency currents while also providing reliable interference discharge at the near line end. To do this, the frequency filter uses a 1 MOhm resistor and a 100 nF capacitor. KLBUE RC is available for conductor cross-sections of 3 mm to 20 mm: three different clamp sizes (3-8 mm, 4-13.5 mm and 10-20 mm) to suit the conductor cross-section provide secure contacting. For flexible installation, there are two product variants for the TS35 top-hat rail and TS32 C rail. The KLBUE RC active shield clamp series is GL-tested for vibration resistance, permitting use in tough surroundings and for mobile applications. The carrier housing also provides enough space to attach a SM 27/8 stick-on sign with precise and even coloured labelling. The easy-to-use BTWZ KLBÜ operating tool also ensures secure shield contacting. And the IS 4 KG hexagon socket wrench with knob is used for secure fastening, allowing the shield clamp to be easily fitted in any installation situation.

Weidmüller's new active KLBUE RC shield clamp makes shielding on both sides possible in extensive systems for the first time. With KLBUE RC, Weidmüller therefore solves the major problem of interference discharge at as close to the near line end as possible. However, optimum interference discharge is made difficult by different ground levels and the associated potential equalisation and capacity per unit length on the line. This is not the case with KLBUE RC because the frequency filter in the shield clamp prevents potential diversion and therefore disruptive compensation currents on the line shield. The high-pass filter between the shield clamp and mounting rail filters lower-frequency signals and only genuine interference (transients) is reliably discharged. The frequency filter uses a resistor (1 MOhm) and a capacitor (100 nF).

The KLBUE RC series comes in three clamp sizes to flexibly cover conductor cross-sections of 3 mm to 20 mm (3-8 mm, 4-13.5 mm and 10-20 mm). Installation is also designed with flexibility in mind. The carrier system for both the TS35 top-hat rail and TS32 C rail can be selected to suit the surroundings. The KLBUE RC series comprises a total of six variants. The rated voltage is 230 V AC in each case and the long-term usage temperature is between min. -25°C and max. +105°C.

All active KLBUE RC shield clamps in the robust plastic housing (PA 66) are GL-tested (curve 2a) for vibration resistance and meet the requirements of rail systems and wind farms. They can be easily used in mobile installations.

The black/silver grey electronic carrier housing provides enough space to attach a large SM 27/8 stick-on sign - clear and even coloured longer labels can therefore be used.

The ergonomically designed BTWZ KLBÜ tool makes for simple operation and ensures secure clamp contacting. And the IS 4 KG hexagon socket wrench allows users to easily fit the shield clamp in any installation situation, while a knob helps attain a good hold and secure contact.

The KLBUE RC series is used in all systems where the line and/or cable paths are 100 m or longer and also include sensitive control systems, for example in rail infrastructure, shipbuilding (cruise ships and container ships), the process industry with wastewater treatment systems, refineries and the energy sector including substations and power plants.
