vitagroup Partners with Prior Labs to Unlock AI’s Potential in Healthcare

(PresseBox) (Mannheim/Freiburg, )
vitagroup and Prior Labs are joining forces to make AI usable in healthcare. The collaboration combines vitagroup’s Health Intelligence Platform (HIP), which enables seamless access to health data, with Prior Labs’ groundbreaking AI technology, designed to enhance the analysis of tabular data. Strengthening the strategic partnership, vitagroup has also invested in the innovative startup through its investment company, Hector Health Innovation.

In healthcare, critical data is often stored in tabular format, which poses challenges for AI to interpret. Most existing AI systems, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, are built on Large Language Models (LLMs) designed primarily to analyse and generate text. Tabular data makes AI processing extremely difficult since it often contains a mix of text and numbers in different formats and units.

Innovative approach

Freiburg-based Prior Labs has overcome this challenge by developing a foundation model specifically trained on tabular data. With only a few example datasets, this advanced AI can accurately identify relationships between data points, predict missing information by leveraging information from other columns, and unlock entirely new application possibilities.

For AI models like Prior Labs to function effectively, they require seamless access to data – which is where vitagroup’s open health data platform HIP provides a critical foundation. HIP ensures that healthcare data is stored independently of the system that created it, remains vendor-neutral, is structured and stored centrally, and is available in real-time for various applications. In addition, HIP guarantees that even the most innovative AI technologies can be utilised in accordance with the GDPR.

Actively Shape the Future of AI in Healthcare

"Our investment in Prior Labs is a strategic step for us to actively shape the future of AI in healthcare,“ says Dr. Nils Hellrung, Director Strategy & Operations at vitagroup. “Priorlabs' superior performance in structured data processing opens up completely new possibilities for data-driven innovations. We are particularly impressed by the open-source approach, which fits perfectly with our strategy of open, interoperable healthcare data platforms. At the same time, this partnership is an important contribution to promoting the development of successful AI companies in Germany and ensuring digital sovereignty.“

“We’re excited to partner with vitagroup to bring the strengths of AI to healthcare in a meaningful way”, says Noah Hollmann, Co-Founder & CTO, Prior Labs. “While our foundation models are designed to uncover patterns and insights in complex structured data, true impact comes from making these capabilities accessible where they matter most. vitagroup’s Health Intelligence Platform provides the ideal environment for this—ensuring that data is available, secure, and interoperable. Together, we aim to support healthcare professionals with better data-driven tools, contributing to improved patient care and accelerating medical research.”
