Die Bundesregierung soll Arbeitnehmer aus den osteuropäischen EU-Staaten ungehindert ins Land lassen, fordert der Hauptgeschäftsführer des Deutschen Industrie- und Handelskammertages (DIHK), Martin Wansleben. Deutschland solle nach französischem Vorbild "schnellstmöglich" seine Grenzen für solche Arbeitnehmer öffnen, sagte Wansleben der WirtschaftsWoche. Frankreichs Präsident Nicolas Sarkozy hatte angekündigt, den französischen Arbeitsmarkt vom 1. Juli dieses Jahres an für Arbeitnehmer aus den osteuropäischen EU-Ländern zu öffnen. Deutschland und Österreich sind nun die einzigen EU-Staaten, die ihre Arbeitsmärkte noch bis 2011 abschotten wollen. Wansleben sieht darin einen schwerwiegenden Nachteil für die deutsche Wirtschaft. "Abschottung heißt, auf mehr Wachstum, Beschäftigung und Wohlstand zu verzichten", so Wansleben in der WirtschaftsWoche. "Als politische Mindestlösung sollte Deutschland gegenüber den 2004 beigetretenen EU-Mitgliedern nun seinen Arbeitsmarkt auf jeden Fall für alle Arbeitnehmer mit Hochschulabschluss und für weitere Berufe, bei denen offensichtlicher Fachkräftemangel besteht, vollständig öffnen." Großbritannien, Irland und Schweden hatten direkt nach der EU-Osterweiterung 2004 ihre Arbeitsmärkte für Bürger der neuen EU-Mitglieder geöffnet. Die anderen EU-Länder zogen allmählich nach. EU-Schutzklauseln erlauben eine Abschottung bis 2011.
