Rocket Tutor Launches at TUM Campus Heilbronn

(PresseBox) (Heilbronn, )
If you want to succeed on the TV show “The Lion's Den,” you need a brilliant idea. That's exactly what two alumni of the TUM School of Management (MGT), Yue Wu and Lionel Rühlemann, had with their learning platform RocketTutor. The tool was initially developed by students for school pupils and teachers and offers tutoring in mathematics for all ages. Now, university students can also benefit from the platform. The AI-supported tutor is now active at TUM Campus Heilbronn, providing targeted, individual support in one of the most important STEM subjects.

The founders were able to impress Carsten Maschmeyer with their platform on the show. Since then, the investor has been supporting RocketTutor financially and as an experienced advisor and contributor. In addition to the two TUM alumni, the founding team also includes Komaldeep Chahal, who has already founded an EdTech start-up in India with over 100,000 users. The implementation at the TUM Heilbronn Campus was largely driven by David Wuttke, Professor of Supply Chain Management. He says: “This novel AI-based teaching innovation will help bachelor's students in the field of management to strengthen their mathematical skills.”

This applies to the entire TUM School of Management. The manager of the department for the use of AI in Munich, project leader Patricia Popp, and the two professors Jürgen Ernstberger and Martin Grunow became aware of RocketTutor. “We considered how we could meaningfully supplement the already excellent preparation provided by the preliminary course in mathematics. With the learning platform, we found the perfect tool,” says Popp. First-semester students in Heilbronn now benefit from the implementation in the Bachelor in Management & Data Science and Master in Management program. In Munich, RocketTutor supports first-semester students in the Master in Management and Master in Consumer Science programs.

A Pre-course at Your Own Pace

New students in the field of management receive a code and a link to access the TUM version of RocketTutor. One of the key advantages of the platform is that the system is multilingual, allowing students to ask questions in their native language. It is also available around the clock. In addition, individual strengths and weaknesses are identified and addressed. The tool is not a substitute for human tutors, but rather represents an additional learning opportunity. David Wuttke emphasizes: “Students can use RocketTutor in parallel with the mathematics pre-course or even afterwards. This gives them the opportunity to deepen their knowledge at their own pace.”

Yue Zhang, another co-founder, knows from personal experience how important individual support is. He was still a child when his family moved from Germany to China and he did not speak Chinese. He found his personal tutor in his grandmother, a former teacher, and his performance at school improved enormously in a short period of time. Thanks to RocketTutor, children and students now have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
