Photovoltaics: Final report of the European Research Project “Solar Bankability”

Risk minimization for investors / development of new tools / presentations at Intersolar Europe

(PresseBox) (Cologne, )
The final report is now available of the two-year European research project “Solar Bankability”, involving the world’s leading testing service provider TÜV Rheinland. The aim of the project was to reduce the technical risks associated with photovoltaic power plants for generating electricity in order to enhance confidence among investors and insurers over the long-term operation. The project was coordinated by Eurac Research. In addition to TÜV Rheinland, the other partners in the research project were 3E, ACCELIOS Solar and SolarPower Europe (European Photovoltaic Industry Association).

In this report, the researchers provide investors with well-founded recommendations and checklists regarding how technical risks can be analyzed and quantitatively assessed. “We have also created two new tools,” says Ulrike Jahn, project manager at TÜV Rheinland. “Firstly, we make available a risk matrix containing 140 technical risks in each project phase and for all PV components. Secondly, a sensitivity analysis tool for the levelized cost of electricity generation (LCOE), which allows for the simulation of different risk scenarios and the resulting LCOE values.”

The research project was supported by the European Commission as part of the Horizon 2020 program (grant no. 649997).

At the Intersolar conference on May 30, 2017, Ulrike Jahn will lead a series of presentations under the name “PV Reliability & Assessment of Technical Risks in PV Investments.” The event will take place between 10.15 am and 1.15 pm in room 4 of the ICM in Munich. At this event, TÜV Rheinland will also be presenting the findings of the “Solar Bankability” study.

TÜV Rheinland will be attending Intersolar fair: hall A2, stand 177.
