Exciting Session planned for AOAC 2022

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Food Fraud and Food Safety: Disruptive Game Changers or Fancy Buzzwords?

(PresseBox) (Berlin, )
This year’s AOAC annual meeting will take place from August 26 to September 1 in Scottsdale, Arizona, where several hundred international experts for analysis of foods are expected. Our colleague Arne Dübecke, Managing Director of Chelab Dr. V. Ara GmbH & Co. KG and Head of the TCF² will join the conference. Of course not empty handed! As in the last 4 years he will take along a session including several speakers. The session topic  this year will be „Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Food Fraud and Food Safety: Disruptive Game Changers or Fancy Buzzwords?“. Food authenticity and safety is an ongoing hot topic, analytical questions that need to be answered get more and more complex, which is why Arne chose this topic to share with the analytical community.

Arne Dübecke will provide insight into this hot topic together with Prof. Franz Ulberth of the Joint Research Center in Geel, Belgium, Prof. Dr. Philip Weller of the University of Mannheim, and Dr. Terry McGrath of Bia Analytical, Belfast.

As computational power and also the capabilities of analytical instruments are constantly increasing, the amount of data produced, especially in non-targeted, fingerprinting analysis, is huge. A single run using a high resolution mass spectrometer (HRMS) can easily yield 500 megabyte or even more data. These amounts of data cannot be evaluated visually peak by peak any more. That is where artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) enter the plot. Combined with statistical methods, AI and ML make it possible to extract the relevant data and to check, if a sample is within specifications or not. Additionally, Franz Ulberth will show how a combination of horizon scanning, data gathering, natural language processing, text mining, intelligence assessment, networking with stakeholders and mathematical modelling can be used for identifying and/or predicting emerging risks in the area of Food Fraud and Food Safety.

Arne Dübecke is „very much looking forward to the AOAC conference and to our session. I expect to learn a lot from these renowned speakers. Furthermore, it will be my first face-to-face meeting in the US since March 2020. It is just great to meet everybody in person again!“.

The session will take place on August 31 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m in the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale. Looking forward to see you there!
