Analytical Food Laboratories Enhances Testing Capabilities with Advanced CEM Instrumentation

New advanced instrumentation at Analytical Food Laboratories is driving faster, more efficient testing without compromising accuracy.

(PresseBox) (Berlin, )
Analytical Food Laboratories (AFL), a Tentamus Company, announced the addition of two advanced analytical instruments from CEM Corporation, significantly enhancing its capabilities in moisture, solids, and fat analysis. The integration of the SMART 6™ and ORACLE™ systems enables faster, more efficient testing while maintaining the high level of accuracy and reliability clients expect.

Accelerated Moisture and Solids Analysis

The SMART 6™ system leverages a unique combination of microwave and infrared energy to rapidly determine moisture and solids content across a wide range of sample types. This dual-energy approach delivers improved flexibility, enhanced temperature control to minimize sample degradation, and faster analysis times without compromising precision.

The method aligns with established industry standards, including AOAC 985.14, AOAC 2008.06, and PVM 1:2004, ensuring validated and defensible results.

Direct Fat Measurement with Advanced NMR Technology

Following moisture analysis, samples can be seamlessly transferred to the ORACLE™ system for fat determination using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology. Utilizing the Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill pulse sequence, as outlined in ISO 16756 / IDF 259, the system directly measures total fat content.

This approach eliminates the need for solvent extraction, matrix-specific calibrations, and additional method development, delivering a more streamlined and environmentally responsible solution while maintaining high analytical reliability.

Driving Faster Insights and Operational Efficiency

By combining SMART 6™ moisture analysis with ORACLE™ fat determination, both measurements can be completed in less than five minutes of instrument analysis time per sample. While official reporting timelines may vary, this advancement significantly improves laboratory efficiency and supports reduced turnaround times.

Client Impact

With this investment in advanced instrumentation, Analytical Food Laboratories now offers:

- Faster analytical workflows

- Reliable, standardized testing methodologies

- Greener processes with no solvent extraction for fat analysis

This latest technology upgrade reinforces AFL’s commitment to delivering high-quality, efficient testing solutions that help clients bring products to market with confidence.
