Potash is one of the world’s most important yet often underestimated commodities. Without potash fertilizers, modern agricultural yields would be nearly impossible to sustain. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash fulfill different roles in plant nutrition and cannot simply be substituted at will. This is precisely why potash is becoming increasingly strategic in a world with a growing population, limited arable land, and strained supply chains.

Recent years have shown how sensitive fertilizer markets can be to crises. The pandemic, the war in Ukraine, sanctions, trade conflicts, and potential disruptions to key transport routes have reminded governments and agricultural markets that food security does not begin in the field, but rather with raw materials, energy, logistics, and financing. Even if an escalation in the Middle East does not necessarily have to directly impact the potash market, indirect effects could be felt through energy prices, freight rates, and general nervousness in the fertilizer markets.

Potash is also gaining political significance. The U.S. and Canada now classify potash as a critical raw material. At the same time, global production is highly concentrated. Canada, Russia, and Belarus dominate the market. For major importing countries such as Brazil, India, China, or the U.S., the question of new, reliable potash sources is therefore becoming increasingly important.

This is exactly where Millennial Potash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ttNz3Avvs — comes in. The company is developing the Banio potash project in southern Gabon, near the Atlantic coast and close to the port region of Mayumba. This location could prove to be a significant advantage in the future — particularly with regard to Atlantic markets such as Brazil, but also Africa and other import regions. Banio is still a development project, but that is precisely where the excitement lies: the next steps could be decisive.

Millennial Potash (WKN: A3DXEK) has recently reported several advances. According to the company, the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) are ongoing and are expected to be completed by the end of 2026. At the same time, the -based company is working on infrastructure issues, including potential port and logistics solutions in the Mayumba area. Additionally, discussions are underway with financial and development institutions regarding potential next steps for financing.

A positive sign is the support from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). Millennial Potash reported that the DFC is providing up to $3 million to finance the feasibility study and related work. This is not construction financing for a mine, but an important vote of confidence from a major U.S. development finance institution.

Operational progress is also being made. On May 12, 2026, Millennial Potash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ttNz3Avvs — announced the start of the Phase 3 drilling program at Banio. Four additional potash-specific drill holes totaling approximately 4,000 meters are planned. The goal is to test southern and western extensions of the known mineralization. Two drill holes are located on the Haute Banio exploration license, which, according to the company, is strategically interesting due to its proximity to potential port and infrastructure areas.

Particularly compelling is the interview with Farhad Abasov, Chairman of Millennial Potash, conducted in German. In it, he discusses the progress of the DFS and ESIA, infrastructure and port issues, potential financing steps, and what might be on the agenda at Banio in the coming months. Anyone who wants to understand why Millennial Potash could be coming into sharper focus right now should watch this interview.

Conclusion: Potash is not a passing trend, but a strategic raw material for global food security. Millennial Potash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ttNz3Avvs — is working on a project that fits into a time of growing geopolitical uncertainty, strained supply chains, and rising demand for reliable fertilizer raw materials. The ongoing DFS, the ESIA, the new drilling program, infrastructure discussions, and DFC support make the coming months particularly interesting — Farhad Abasov explains more in an interview.
