Global demand for uranium is rising

(PresseBox) (Herisau, )
Artificial intelligence, data centers, and electrification are driving global uranium demand.

The nuclear fuel cycle begins with the mining of uranium and ends with the disposal of nuclear waste. Energy that is sufficient and always available is necessary. Nuclear energy is produced by splitting large uranium atoms into smaller atoms. This generates heat, then steam, which drives a turbine to generate electricity. After combustion, the fuel is highly radioactive and must be stored safely. However, some of it can be reprocessed. According to estimates, the Earth's crust contains around 35 trillion tons of uranium, but it is unevenly distributed across the globe.

About two-thirds of uranium production comes from Kazakhstan, Canada, and Australia. According to the International Energy Agency's (IEA) World Energy Outlook, the electrification of industry, heating, transportation, and technology will require approximately 7,000 TWh of additional electricity by 2030. That is more than the combined annual energy needs of the US and the EU.

Clean energy sources and their expansion alone cannot meet energy demand. Nuclear energy is part of the necessary energy mix. Fossil fuels and nuclear power plants will account for around 33 percent of energy production capacity by 2030 and around 22 percent by 2050. Global nuclear energy capacity will grow at an average rate of three percent over the next 15 years. New nuclear power plants and more uranium are needed. The main drivers of this growth will be the US and China. The US has to import about two-thirds of the uranium it needs. As a result, the US is investing billions in nuclear infrastructure. Uranium companies in the US include Uranium Energy and Premier American Uranium.

Uranium Energy - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/uranium-energy-corp/ - owns diversified uranium assets and ISR uranium projects in the US, with additional projects in Canada. Uranium mining, processing, refining, and conversion are part of the business.

Premier American Uranium - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/premier-american-uranium-inc/ - has uranium projects in five excellent regions in the US. With its extensive land holdings, the company is ideally positioned to strengthen energy security in the US.
