- For the first time, the company ranks among the 20 most popular companies for German computer science students
- Its robust business model, excellent training opportunities, attractive compensation systems, and comprehensive worklife balance program make the software company a highly esteemed employer
- In addition, Software AG's University Relations program has counteracted the shortage of skilled personnel in the ICT industry
For the first time, German computer science students have rated Software AG one of the 20 best places to workahead of companies like Cisco Systems, Oracle Deutschland GmbH, and Hewlett-Packard. This was revealed in a recent survey, conducted by consulting firm Universum Communications, of more than 20,000 students majoring in computer science, economics, engineering, and natural sciences.
"I'm happy with he results of the study as we have focused on raising the awareness of Software AG amongst IT students in Germany," says Karl-Heinz Streibich, CEO of Software AG. "Today's graduates are looking for a challenging job at a successful company. They want to be able to evolve and earn good money without sacrificing their worklife balance. Software AG provides professionals the right combination of economic success, challenging work, attractive compensation, and encouragement of worklife balance. More and more graduates are taking note."
Software AG's economic success can be attributed to its robust business model based on leading products and solutions that control customers' core processes and safeguard their business activities. Expenditures on these products and solutions constitute operating costs, which are cut less in economically difficult times than are investments in new IT infrastructure. Therefore, Software AG grew profitably during the crisis of 2009 and will continue to follow its growth path.
The company's top executives work in the fields of IT development, IT consulting, sales, and administration. Launched in 2005, Corporate University offers targeted qualification measures for employees in all areas via an online platform for elearning and collaborative learning (learning management system). In 2009 alone, employees completed more than 8,000 courses and earned more than 300 certifications. The international High Potentials Programnow in its third yearis geared toward employees who display outstanding performance and should support the company's growth in the coming years.
Software AG bases its compensation structure and benefits on global benchmarks, thereby ensuring highly attractive compensation in line with the market for all employees. Furthermore, the company's leaders realized early on that in addition to salary and development opportunities, worklife balance is becoming increasingly important for employees. It was therefore deemed appropriate to invest in the development of offerings customized to countryspecific needs, including guidance on such topics as child and family care, along with sports programs and health and fitness days.
Increasing the company's attractiveness as an employer is in itself not enough to bring the best employees on board. This is particularly true for the ICT industry. As shown by a recent survey by the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications, and New Media (BITKOM), more than 20,000 jobs are unfilled, especially in the fields of software and IT services. Software AG is actively counteracting this shortage of skilled personnel with its University Relations program. The crux of the program is to put all Software AG products into colleges and universities around the world free of charge for teaching and research purposes. In connection with this, IT and business students are offered an opportunity to get to know the company through guest lectures, corporate visits, and events. Jobs for students are being created and dissertations supervised. In the past three years, more than 280 chairs from more than 100 universities across Germany participated in the program, and more than 2,800 students have learned about serviceoriented architectures (SOA) and business process management (BPM).
