Hamburg ambassadors discover key technology at SLM Solutions

SLM Solutions Group AG invited the honorary ambassadors of the Hamburg metropolitan region to visit its company headquarters in Lübeck. As part of their annual meeting, the HamburgAmbassadors were given a tour of the production facility, which focuses on innovative, metal-based 3D printing technology.

The HamburgAmbassador program is a marketing scheme of the city government, which aims to boost the profile of the city and the surrounding region around the world. The group consists of personalities from the worlds of business, culture and society who live permanently abroad and who have close links to Hamburg. These “HamburgAmbassadors” work on an honorary basis in their respective new homes. The program was launched in 2005 by the Hamburg Senate, together with the Hamburg Business Development Corporation, Hamburg Marketing GmbH and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. Every May, either before or after the celebrations marking the port’s birthday, the ambassadors come together for several days to discuss selected issues.

This year, the focus was on the topic of the “digital city”. During their meeting the 33 honorary ambassadors, who represent the region’s interests in 21 countries, visited SLM Solutions Group AG in Lübeck. As a leading provider of metal-based additive manufacturing technology, SLM Solutions opened the doors to its production facility. Professor Wolfgang Michalski, ambassador in Paris and spokesman for the network, commented: “I found this one of the most interesting parts of the entire meeting. When you take a look at what SLM Solutions does, you quickly realize what drives the market.”

With these insights and information, the HamburgAmbassadors promote the city at business occasions, individual presentations or at their “Hamburg Nights”, to which they invite friends, business partners and top decision makers. Alongside this, the HamburgAmbassadors are involved in the planning of trade fairs, conferences, congresses and receptions, and use their networks to support the preparation of activities for the city and metropolitan region of Hamburg around the world.
