Environmental information along the value chain is becoming increasingly important for companies—especially in the construction industry. Environmental product declarations (EPDs) are gaining in significance as a means of creating ecological transparency for customers and partners. SKZ – The Plastics Center now supports companies with newly developed digital tools to efficiently generate well-founded, comparable life cycle assessment results based on international standards such as EN 15804 and ISO 14040/44.
The new SKZ tools offer decisive advantages:
User-friendliness:
Intuitive input masks and clear instructions make it easy to get started even without in-depth knowledge of life cycle assessment.
Compliance with standards:
The tools work with up-to-date databases and the calculations are based on recognized standards.
Product-specific focus:
Developed for plastic pipes and windows – tailored to the specific requirements of the industry.
Efficiency gains:
Companies save time and resources when creating EPDs.
“With these tools, we want to make it easier for small and medium-sized companies in particular to access sound environmental information and support them on their path to greater sustainability,” explains Dr. Hermann Achenbach, Head of Sustainability at SKZ.
With pilot projects for practical application
To ensure optimal implementation, SKZ is planning two so-called pioneer projects – one for plastic pipes and one for plastic windows – and is actively seeking companies that would like to participate. The aim is to ensure the practical applicability and verifiability of company-specific EPDs.
Participating companies benefit from:
- Early access to the tools
- Individual support with application
- Cost advantages through project synergies
- Competitive advantages through valid environmental information
- Special conditions for subsequent use of the tool
Interested companies can contact SKZ now. Further information on the projects and participation is available on request.
