United Silicon Carbide (USCi) now available at setron

SiC based devices for high voltage applications in power electronics

(PresseBox) (Braunschweig, )
setron, the distributor for electronic components located in Braunschweig, has signed an extensive franchise agreement with United Silicon Carbide for the distribution of SiC devices.

With sales locations in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine as well as in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland via the sister company Trafomo, setron strengthens the USCi sales network in Central and Northern Europe, thereby providing a reliable availability for USCi products in these countries.

As a technically oriented design-in distributor noted for its sales channel and distinct customer focus, setron expands its portfolio with high quality innovative SiC products. Compared to conventional silicon parts SiC based ones have a several times higher band gap and with it a higher efficiency, as the control losses decrease. Furthermore, the disruptive strength of SiC exceeds the one of silicon. Thereby, the device is less susceptible to thermal instability and more reliable at last. With these characteristics, SiC is well suited for high temperature applications and can be used in harsh environments like the automotive sector. Though SiC based components are in general more expensive than the silicon version, SiC products can save costs. The high power density of the SiC process enables better chip workload und lower requirements for cooling or filter elements.

As the omission of secondary components effect the financial economy in the overall system, SiC devices enable lower cost with higher reliability at the same time.

"We are pleased about the enrichment of our portfolio with excellent solutions in the field of innovative SiC components. In addition to silicon based devices we are now able to offer products, which meet the increased requirements of our customers concerning efficiency and power density," says Bernd Riemann, Director of Application & Technical Marketing at setron.

Located in New Jersey, USA, USCi has a long-term research experience in the field of SiC power devices. The in-house R&D foundry provides a fast process chain from design to manufacturing and packaging of the components.

In addition to Schottky diodes, JFETs, MOSFETs and BJTs, the product portfolio contains also custom SiC foundry services, modules and ICs. SiC products provide an extremely high efficiency, higher power density and a better reliability compared to conventional silicon based devices. Therefore they are ideal for demanding applications with high thermal requirements like power electronics or avionics. The field of application for SiC components range from power supplies, solar and wind inverters, motor control and rectifiers to hybrid automotive and transportation.
