STW to present electric drive concept powerMELA duo280 for the retrofit business area

(PresseBox) (Kaufbeuren, )
At this year’s Power2Drive trade fair in Munich, STW is to present its new drive package for utility vehicles with an output of 160 to 280 kW. This package comprises two electric motors with 80 or 140 kW output respectively. The motors drive the summation gearbox, which in turn transmits the force onto the standard gearbox of the utility vehicle. This permits the concept of “Diesel out, electric in” to be realized with little mechanical conversion required and without increasing the original total weight (incl. battery). Furthermore, the series-produced and field-tested drive concept guarantees functional safety up to ASIL B in accordance with ISO 26262. In particular for heavy duty vehicles such as buses or trucks, the optimized driving characteristics and the start-up torques (available due to the use of the existing gearbox) are a major advantage.

At the Power2Drive trade fair in Munich, the new powerMELA duo280 is to be demonstrated live on the fully-electric 44-ton semi-trailer tractor “ELIAS”, a battery-electric truck with a range of 200 km, a funding project in collaboration with the Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Landesentwicklung und Energie (Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy), for which purpose a diesel truck has been retrofitted by STW, the vehicle manufacturer Toni Maurer and the forwarding agent Ansorge Logistik. STW provides these services as a system supplier for components in the business areas drives, power conversion and distribution and insulation monitoring as well as system safety for converters, system designers and manufacturers.
