SAP(R) BusinessObjects(TM) XI Solutions Fuel Green IT Initiative, Help Emdeon Reduce Paper Use and Improve Healthcare Administrative Efficiencies

(PresseBox) (Palo Alto, California, )
SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that Emdeon, a leading provider of revenue and payment cycle management solutions for the healthcare industry, uses comprehensive SAP® BusinessObjects(TM) XI solutions to optimize important healthcare-administration functions and reduce its carbon footprint. The business intelligence (BI) tools help Emdeon make traditionally paper-based reports available online, allowing the organization to conduct immediate self-service research, run claims processing more easily and distribute reports to customers more quickly and efficiently.

Prior to 2008, Emdeon printed and distributed as many as 800,000 paper reports a day. In 2008, Emdeon identified BI and online reporting from Business Objects as a sustainable technology that could help reduce paper reports and move online reporting to a self-service model. Today, Emdeon uses SAP BusinessObjects XI and Crystal Reports® software as a part of its Emdeon Vision for Claim Management application for paperless customer tracking and trending, and to provide customers with online access to the information they need. SAP BusinessObjects software helps Emdeon design and deliver reports to customers in an eco-friendly way.

"SAP BusinessObjects solutions have helped Emdeon kick off important green IT initiatives and become increasingly efficient from an administrative standpoint," said Gene Boerger, vice president of advanced business reporting, Emdeon. "By engaging in more sustainable initiatives - and effectively reducing paper, printing and distribution costs - we are working to lower the overall cost of healthcare for our customers. Furthermore, using BI tools has helped us gain greater insight from the information Emdeon possesses in its data warehouses. We accumulate 25 million rows of new data every day, and the SAP BusinessObjects intelligence platform helps us bring this previously static information to life."

SAP BusinessObjects Solutions Help Emdeon Optimize Data, Reporting and Claims Processing
SAP BusinessObjects XI is a part of Emdeon Vision, an innovative Web-based solution that provides one reporting platform for both internal and external constituencies. Emdeon manages more than 15,000 XML reporting requests per day and rendered a total of 1.5 million reports in 2008.

Emdeon Vision frees up time for healthcare payers and providers alike by automatically processing medical and dental claims, electronic remittances, real-time insurance eligibility requests, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-based transactions.

Further validating its progressive use of BI solutions, Emdeon was recently named a Business Objects 2008 BI Excellence Award Winner for its application of BI tools in improving business processes and sustainability efforts. The newly introduced award program honors SAP BusinessObjects customers utilizing BI to make a significant and lasting impact on their greater organizations.

"Part of our mission as a company is to transform the way the world works by employing the power of information," said Marge Breya, general manager and executive vice president, Intelligence Platform Group, SAP BusinessObjects Division. "One of the ways we do that is to provide solutions that help businesses like Emdeon better manage their sustainability initiatives. Emdeon transforms the way healthcare functions by using technology to improve organizational processes and reduce the impact on the environment, a significant achievement that easily earns a BI Excellence Award."
