56% of Swiss employees expect bonuses in January

(PresseBox) (Zurich, )
As annual performance evaluations loom, tension is rising among employees, with 56% anticipating an additional bonus by the end of this month, according to a recent salary survey conducted by Swiss recruitment specialist Robert Walters.

High expectations

Employees are openly sharing their preferences regarding bonus amounts, with 43% of professionals surveyed aspiring to receive a bonus between 11 and 20% of their gross annual salary. Additionally, 26% find a bonus exceeding 20% to be appropriate.

"These expectations also play a role in job applicants’ demands. For 77% of surveyed employees, the offered bonus scheme is a determining factor in accepting a new job," explains Christian Atkinson, Country Director at Robert Walters Switzerland.

Rising interest in bonus schemes

Employers are also showing a growing interest in bonus schemes. In the past 18 months, 29% of employees have seen a bonus scheme added to their package of fringe benefits. Today, 74% of employers included in the survey are granting bonuses to their staff.

"This trend appears to be solidifying in 2024," predicts Christian. "Our research indicates that 32% of employers are inclined to award bonuses to juniors, while 42% plan to do so for professionals at middle and executive management levels.

With historically low unemployment rates in Switzerland, finding and retaining talent is exceptionally challenging for organizations. Talent retention tops the HR agenda for 2024. Awarding performance-based bonuses proves to be an effective strategy to show appreciation and maintain high job satisfaction," concludes Christian.
