New from RAMPF: Electrical Casting Systems for the Rail Industry

EN 45545-2 certified polyurethane systems for maximum fire protection, highest performance, and efficient manufacturing processes

(PresseBox) (Grafenberg, )
RAMPF Advanced Polymers has developed high-performance polyurethane casting systems for the rail industry with EN 45545-2 certification. RAKU® PUR 21-2350 and RAKU® PUR 21-2452-2 guarantee maximum fire protection, excellent thermal conductivity, optimum viscosity, and easy processability.

Key Facts
  1. RAMPF Advanced Polymers has developed polyurethane casting systems tailored for rail applications that are compliant with the European fire protection standard EN 45545-2.
  2. The two-component systems feature high thermal conductivity and low viscosity for easy processing.
  3. The use of non-abrasive fillers allows for processing via standard mixing and dispensing equipment.
From control units and transformers to electric motors – The safety of trains and rail vehicles depends to large extent on components that meet the highest fire protection standards. To ensure this, all materials must comply with the stringent requirements of European standard EN 45545-2, which regulates fire behavior in rail applications.

Manufacturers face the challenge of meeting fire protection requirements while ensuring high product performance, durability, and production efficiency.

Maximum fire protection and cost efficiency – this defines the RAKU® PUR 21-2350 and RAKU® PUR 21-2452-2 casting systems from RAMPF Advanced Polymers, engineered specifically for train and rail vehicle applications:
  • The two-component polyurethane systems fulfill the required flame-retardant properties according to UL 94 V0 3 mm / 1.5 mm (File E111148, mechanical and electrical testing) and are certified according to EN 45545-2.
  • Their high thermal conductivity pairs seamlessly with low viscosity for easy processing. Additionally, the use of non-abrasive fillers allows for processing via standard mixing and dispensing equipment.
RAKU® PUR 21-2350 is particularly suitable for casting circuit boards and transformers and offers the following advantages:
  • Low shrinkage and low stress curing due to low exothermicity
  • Good thermal shock resistance
  • Low water absorption and good hydrolysis resistance
  • RTI 130°C (File E11148)
  • Free from halogenated flame retardants
  • RoHS compliant
  • Suitable for outdoor use in accordance with UL 746C (f2, File E11148)
RAKU® PUR 21-2452-2 is particularly suitable for applications with high working temperatures and offers the following advantages:
  • Very high long-term temperature resistance
  • Insulation class F
  • Low water absorption and good hydrolysis resistance
  • RTI 160°C (File 111148)
  • Free from halogenated flame retardants
  • RoHS-compliant
  • OBJ System Components, Electrical, File OBJS2.E365009 155°C class F
