douglas.de to employ the Recommendation Engine from Pironet NDH and prudsys

Pironet NDH and prudsys AG have equipped the online store of Europe's leading cosmetics chain, Douglas, with their self-learning Recommendation Engine. This provides customers with dynamically generated purchase tips while they are shopping, based on their current product selection. The prudsys Recommendation Engine (prudsys RE) is already in use in numerous online stores, where it makes targeted purchase suggestions and leads to an increase in cross-selling turnover.

Customers can select from over 18,000 products at douglas.de. Numerous brands can be found in the high street stores, with their extensive range of scents and bodycare products. The online store is supplemented by video clips giving care and make-up tips, as well as hair and jewelry products. The Douglas store is thereby the leading portal in the cosmetics industry.

The prudsys RE is employed as a recommendation engine by douglas.de to improve the level of their customer advice and to exploit cross-selling potential. The software compares the contents of the current shopping basket with others and suggests carefully targeted complementary articles under the "Perfect Partners" rubric. The system makes use of basic product relationships to determine logical combinations – on a fully autonomous basis. The self-learning Recommendation Engine registers the reaction of the customer to the suggestion in real time and then modifies the recommendation – dynamically, where appropriate. This renders the suggestions more personalized and increasingly accurate. Furthermore, Douglas is to employ the prudsys Merkur Miner, one of the most powerful OLAP tools, for the analysis and processing of their customer data.
