New Magnetic Field Probe BFD-400-3 Expands Narda FieldMan Family
Pfullingen, October 2025 – With the new BFD-400-3, Narda Safety Test Solutions introduces a high-precision magnetic field probe designed for high-resolution magnetic field analysis from 1 Hz to 400 kHz. As the latest addition to the Narda FieldMan family, it is ideally suited for development, diagnostics, and maintenance applications requiring detailed magnetic field investigations.
The BFD-400-3 supports Weighted RMS (WRM) and Weighted Peak (WPM) evaluations in compliance with IEC/EN 62311 and IEC/EN 62233. Measurement data can be processed via the FieldMan base unit or streamed directly to a PC via USB using Narda-TSX software – with full access to all operating modes, including the real-time live mode.
Equipped with an integrated isotropic 3 cm² sensor, the probe provides exceptional spatial resolution. It is particularly well suited for source localization in control cabinets, PCB emission analysis, shielding effectiveness tests, and disturbance detection in industrial systems. It also enables the determination of coupling factors according to IEC/EN 62233 Annex B, where high spatial resolution is essential for exposure modeling.
Compared to previous 3 cm² probes such as the ELT 400, the BFD-400-3 delivers significant functional enhancements: digital signal processing with real-time FFT, integrated WRM/WPM evaluation, advanced filter options, high-speed USB streaming, and a digitized, self-testing interface.
Key Features:
- Isotropic (non-directional) measurement with IEC/EN-compliant 3 cm² sensor
- Time-domain weighted evaluation (STD) – WPM and WRM – for all relevant international standards
and directives, including Directive 2013/35/EU
- Fast, gap-free real-time spectrum analysis
- Spectrum mode with limit curve display for all three measurement axes
- Scope mode for triggered time-signal analysis
- Adjustable selective filters (band-pass or band-stop)
- Digital probe interface – no base-unit calibration required
- Integrated self-test at startup
- Direct USB streaming to PC (FieldMan base unit not required)
