“Nashtec” production in US fully back in operation

Total fine hydroxide capacity rises by further 13,000 tonnes thanks to new production line in Schwandorf

(PresseBox) (Schwandorf, )
Nabaltec AG, a leading supplier of mineral-based flame retardants and raw materials for technical ceramics, resumed production at its location in Corpus Christi, Texas (USA), on September 10. "Nashtec" has now regained full production capacity, enabling customers to be supplied with APYRALÒ 40 CD once again. The first delivery took place on schedule on September 17.

In addition to Corpus Christi, Nabaltec also has successfully implemented the planned capacity extension at the Schwandorf location. A new production line for APYRALÒ CD qualities commenced operations a few days ago. The company’s overall production capacity for fine hydroxides has thus risen by 13,000 tonnes to a current total of 93,000 tonnes in the Group. A further 13,000 tonnes of capacity are currently being installed in the form of an additional new production line at Schwandorf. These volumes will be available to the market from March 2008.

"By making these investments, we will be able to do justice to the ongoing high level of demand for our products", commented Gerhard Witzany, Member of the Board of Nabaltec AG. "The additional capacities in Schwandorf will enable us not only to make up for the impact of Nashtec, but also to successfully maintain the track record of growth seen in the past. In the current financial year, this will be reflected in consolidated sales of around EUR 95 million and year-on-year earnings growth."

Nabaltec AG

Nabaltec AG, with registered office in Schwandorf, a chemicals business which has received multiple awards for innovativeness, manufactures, develops and distributes highly specialized products based on aluminum hydroxide ("ATH") and aluminum oxide, as well as other raw materials, on an industrial scale through its "Functional Fillers" and "Technical Ceramics" divisions. The company's product range includes flame retardant fillers for the plastics industry, used e.g. in cables in tunnels, airports, high-rise buildings and electronic devices, as well as base materials for use in technical ceramics, the refractory industry and catalysis. Unlike halogenated flame retardant fillers, the products manufactured by the company's "Functional Fillers" division contain no hazardous substances and do not require separate disposal. Rather, the company's flame retardant fillers actually decrease the development of fumes hazardous to human health and the environment in the event of fire. Nabaltec maintains production sites in Germany and the US. It aims to further consolidate its market position by increasing capacity, continuing to optimize its processes and product quality and strategic additions to its product range and to secure the market leadership in each segment where its specialty products are represented, in addition to qualitative leadership.
