New dimension for industrial cleaning: operation near to zero waste

Practical example: Graphite shell-and-tube heat exchanger - the finest discipline in the field of cleaning shell-and-tube heat exchangers

(PresseBox) (Bielefeld, )
The exchanger shown here is used in a waste incineration plant for the condensation of hydrochloric acid from the incineration process. In the tubes (i.d. 32 mm) hydrochloric acid residues settle as soft adhesive and also solid substance. The strength of the residues is in some areas higher than the strength of the graphite pipe material. The possibilities of flushing cleaning by means of chemicals are not possible here. Mechanical cleaning, e.g. by high-pressure water processes, is hardly possible because the permissible pressure load on the pipes is very low.

The mechanical cleaning of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger with the patented mycon TubeMaster system was carried out in this practical example by Kipp Umwelttechnik, the sister company of mycon GmbH.

The residues could be removed without leaving any residues. No abrasion on the graphite tubes was measurable. The cleaning residues were collected in a closed system. The examination showed that hardly any graphite was contained there. The cleaning of the graphite tubes can therefore be repeated at any time if necessary.

The use of the mycon TubeMaster system in the area of tubes and tube bundle heat exchangers made of sensitive materials such as graphite requires equipment that is precisely tailored to the specific situation. Kipp Umwelttechnik has many years of experience in cleaning tubes and tube bundle heat exchangers made of almost all tube materials used for this purpose:

- Steel, - stainless steel, - titanium, - special alloys, -copper, - brass, - bronze, - glass, - fiberglass, - other plastics, - graphite
