Europrop International celebrates 100th TP400-D6

(PresseBox) (München, )
The EPI Europrop International (EPI) engine consortium has completed the 100th TP400-D6 production-standard engine to power the Airbus A400M military airlifter. On Tuesday, November 11, MTU Aero Engines in Munich hosted a celebration to mark this special occasion. The 100th TP400-D6 will go to the German Air Force's engine fleet, as part of the in-service support programme.

MTU performs the final assembly of all TP400-D6 production engines in its facilities at its Munich headquarters. The three other shareholders in EPI - ITP, Rolls-Royce and Snecma - ship their modules to the assembly line in Munich. Following final assembly, the engines are sent to MTU's facility in Ludwigsfelde near Berlin to undergo testing.

Europrop International's president, Ian Crawford, said: "The completion of the 100th production-standard engine marks another key milestone in the TP400-D6 programme and highlights how quickly the delivery phase is ramping up. We are already looking ahead to the 200th engine delivery which is due in January 2016."

To date, 24 TP400-D6 engines have logged over 4,000 flight hours aboard A400M transports in service with the French and Turkish air forces. Deliveries of first aircraft to the UK and Germany are expected soon.

EPI Europrop International GmbH was created by four leading European aero-engine companies - Industria de Turbo Propulsores, MTU Aero Engines, Rolls-Royce and Snecma (Safran) - to manage the TP400 engine program for the A400M military transport. The propulsion system, a three-shaft configuration, delivers a maximum output of 11,000 shaft horsepower, which makes it the most powerful turboshaft engine in the West.
