Integration of machines, robots and production IT

FANUC and MPDV cooperate

(PresseBox) (Mosbach, )
In times of Industry 4.0, all production resources must be consistently integrated. Manufacturing IT supports this in the form of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). FANUC and MPDV have recently signed a cooperation agreement to expand each other's product portfolio. At the same time, both partners are also strengthening their clout in the fiercely competitive market in which companies procure innovative technologies for the smart factory.

The Japanese company FANUC, known for its eye-catching yellow robots, and the globally acting MES provider MPDV have entered into an intensive cooperation in the field of IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things). In particular, the MES system HYDRA will complement FANUC's solution portfolio. In addition to the expansion of the MPDV distribution network, both partners expect to increase their perception as experts for Industry 4.0. Initially, the cooperation will focus on the People's Republic of China. Once sufficient experience has been gained, cooperation will be extended to the rest of the world.

Lived cooperation

A joint demonstrator at FANUC's Shanghai site is now also in operation. The demonstrator comprises a production landscape of FANUC machines and robots that are monitored and visualized in real time by the MES HYDRA. The implementation in the HYDRA standard, the short implementation phase and the deep integration of the solutions of both partners indicate a high success potential. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Juergen Kletti, CEO of MPDV explains: "For us, the cooperation with FANUC is another important building block in our strategy to become a leading global provider of Industry 4.0 solutions".

FANUC Corporation (www.fanuc.co.jp), headquartered in Oshino-mura, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, is a leading global manufacturer of advanced robots, machinery and equipment. FANUC contributes to the automation of its customers, whereby the three pillars of the FA Business Division, based on the basic technologies NC and SERVO, the ROBOT Business Division and the ROBOMACHINE Business Division, apply these basic technologies. In 2017, the company had total sales of approximately 730 billion YEN (approximately 4.8 billion US dollars).

Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) support production companies to improve efficiencies in their production processes, increase productivity and thus to secure or enhance their ability to compete. A state-of-the-art MES puts companies in the position to record and evaluate data along the complete value chain in real-time. People in charge can therefore react instantly to unforeseen events in the daily production routine and put in suitable measures. MES supports on all levels of a manufacturing compa-ny short-term as well as far-reaching decisions by providing a reliable data basis.

HYDRA, the modular structured MES by MPDV, features an extensive functional range and meets all requirements stated in the ISA95 and the VDI guideline 5600. Individual HYDRA applications based on a central MES database can be combined without the use of interfaces. Thus, HYDRA guarantees a 360-degree view on all resources in production and can incorporate overlapping processes. Powerful tools for configuration and customization ensure that HYDRA can be modified in order to cater for company and industry specific requirements. HYDRA can be integrated into existing IT landscapes and is used as a link between production (shop floor) and the management level (e.g. ERP system). Production compa-nies are particular reactive using an MES system like HYDRA and therefore remain competitive - espe-cially looking at Industry 4.0.
