The MICROS-Fidelio Data Center engineering team recently completed an OPERA upgrade from version 3.0 to version 5.0 at Louvre Hotels Group in France. The new OPERA version 5.0 allows faster day-end closing and reporting, fast internet reservation confirmation in essence boosts the overall system performance. The total upgrade was performed under one maintenance window and downtime amounted to a maximum of 17 hours. At peak time MICROS-Fidelio dedicated 50 professionals in order to meet the targeted timelines. Four real test runs were performed for live upgrade preparation in order to optimize process flows and meet the stringent quality standards.
The project started in December 2010 and was transferred to support and maintenance mode immediately after the upgrade. The migration included in detail the integration of:
- 830 OPERA properties managed through OPERA Reservation Systems, ORS;
- 682 hosted OPERA Property Management Systems, PMS;
- 682 Louvre Hotel Properties taking advantage of OPERA Central Information Systems, OCIS;
- 682 Louvre Hotel Properties are distributed via OPERA Web Systems, OWS, via Alternative Distribution Systems, ADS and Global Distribution Systems, GDS;
- 848 vendor interfaces from IFC7 to IFC8;
- 130 KIOSKs.
Following an extremely successful eleven years of hosting cooperation MICROS-Fidelio, during which the deployed solution suite has enjoyed reliability, Louvre Hotels has taken the decision to increase its capacity and also to utilize the latest hosting centre HP technology. The Louvre Hotels' hosting infrastructure's consolidation included the reduction from 7 node- to 4 node Oracle clusters and the web frontends from 15 servers to 10 server units. Such consolidation was achieved by using HP Proliant servers with the latest AMD Opteron(TM) 12 core processors.
"The decision was taken to upgrade the system following a review of the rate at which Louvre Hotels were activating new hotel properties. By utilizing HP converged networking and virtual connect technologies, the hosted deployment will be able to continue to offer the most cost-effective and reliable solution on the market to Louvre hotels," stated Mr Kaweh Niroomand, MF EAME president.
