Im Rahmen des diesjährigen DKOU (Deutscher Kongress für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie) vom 26.-29. Oktober in Berlin ist eines der zentralen Themen die Kyphoplastie - ein minimalinvasives Verfahren für die Wiederherstellung von gebrochenen Wirbelkörpern. Diese können durch Osteoporose oder nach Unfällen zusammensinken, was im Allgemeinen als "Kompressionsfraktur" bezeichnet wird.

Diese sehr schmerzhafte Erkrankung der Wirbelsäule wird seit einigen Jahren erfolgreich mit der Ballon-Kyphoplastie behandelt. Anders als bei der Vertebroplastie wird hierbei zuerst der Wirbelkörper mit einem entfaltbaren Ballon aufgerichtet und im 2. Schritt der Bio-Zement eingespritzt.
