Its make or break: High-pressure Impulse Testing

Maximator sells 100th high-pressure pulse test rig

How many pressure cycles can a component withstand? Cyclic compression tests are conducted to answer this question early in the development and pre-production stages of product development. Maximator GmbH, based in the German federal state of Thuringia, provides an impressive test rig for customers from the automotive and mechanical engineering industries. At the beginning of August, the company delivered the 100th unit.

The high-pressure impulse test rigs produced by the medium-sized company from Nordhausen work with very high test pressures of up to 4500 bar and high test frequencies of up to 15 hertz. The system's high levels of test accuracy have been documented for all procedures. Freely selectable pressure curves can be defined, including sinus and trapezoidal curves. Maximator test rigs are used to test prototypes in the development phase as well as series-produced components for operational stability and fatigue limit.

The company has been selling high-pressure impulse test rigs since 1996. The 100th unit was recently shipped to South Carolina (USA), where its purchaser, PurePower Technologies, a subsidiary of Navistar International Corporation, produces diesel pressure injection systems. The components for which the test rig will be used are subjected to pressure of well above 2000 bar. Maximator's impulse test rig will enable PurePower Technologies to optimise their injection systems for continuously increasing injection pressures.

Achim Lenger, sales engineer at Maximator GmbH, said: "Our international experience as a service provider in the field of pulse pressure tests and the many systems we have built enable us to meet our customers' individual requirements. We are committed to providing tailored solutions."
