Maxell develops energy harvesting evaluation kit using an all-solid-state battery in conjunction with the ROHM Group

(PresseBox) (Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, )
Maxell, Ltd. has collaborated with LAPIS Technology Co., Ltd. and ROHM Co., Ltd. to develop a low current consumption*1 evaluation module kit that is compatible with energy harvesting techniques, specifically solar electric generation. The evaluation module kit utilizes LAPIS Technology's ML9077 charge control IC for energy harvesting, ROHM's BD8B133NVX voltage-boosting DC-DC converter IC Nano Energy™ ultra-low current consumption technology (which is currently under development), and Maxell's PSB401010H and PSB401515H ceramic packaged all-solid-state batteries (also currently under development). This collaborative effort aims to create a solution that enables efficient energy harvesting and storage for various applications.

The low current consumption energy harvesting-compatible evaluation module kit developed by Maxell, LAPIS Technology, and ROHM enables easy examination of the charging solution for the all-solid-state battery. This battery is designed to be compatible with power generation from sunlight and indoor lighting. Since it doesn't require an external power supply, it has the potential to be applied in various fields, including industrial applications and consumer products.

The all-solid-state battery developed by Maxell offers several advantages. It provides high temperature resistance*2, meaning it can withstand elevated temperatures without significant performance degradation. It also has a long lifetime*3, ensuring its durability and longevity. Additionally, the battery boasts a high degree of safety*4, addressing concerns related to battery-related incidents.

By using the evaluation module, companies interested in adopting all-solid-state batteries and energy harvesting-compatible power supplies can easily evaluate their feasibility and performance. Maxell aims to accelerate the adoption of these technologies in a wide range of applications, contributing to the resolution of social issues.

*1 Low current consumption: The quiescent current (at non-switching) of the voltage boosting DC-DC converter IC (BD8B133NVX) is 180nA (Typ.). For details, please refer to the Nano Energy™ ultra-low current consumption technology product page.

*2 High temperature resistance: At an environment temperature of up to 125°C, depending on Maxell's test conditions

*3 Long lifetime: Maxell's lifetime prediction result depending on various evaluations and analysis

*4 High degree of safety: No firing or smoking in various safety tests such as 200°C heating, nail penetration, and external short circuiting
