Liquid helium cools magnets in MRI systems

Linde and Siemens signed major helium supply contract in China

(PresseBox) (Hoellriegelskreuth, )
Siemens Medical Solutions and Linde AG, Linde Gas Division have recently concluded an agreement for the supply of helium and related services to Siemens’ Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) production facilities in Shenzhen, PR China.

In Shenzhen, Siemens has built a state-of-the-art production facility to manufacture complete MRI systems intended for the Chinese and Export markets. In conjunction with this facility, which began operations in early 2005, Linde has installed and is currently operating an on-site helium center.

Under a total gas management concept, Linde is providing fresh helium and other industrial gases as well as recovery and re-liquefaction services. Additionally, Linde’s on site operating personnel are handling the sensitive magnet cool down procedure thus allowing Siemens’ engineers to focus on other aspects of the manufacturing process.

“We have chosen Linde because of their innovative technical approach and expertise in helium supply and recovery. We look forward to having a long term, mutually beneficial relationship with Linde in Shenzhen” said Mr. Dietmar Lehne, Supply Chain Management MR, Siemens Medical Solutions.

“Siemens is one of Linde’s most important global customers. We are very pleased to have been selected as a partner in their production facility in Shenzhen. With a growing footprint in China and a strong worldwide helium supply network, Linde is well positioned to provide Siemens with a secure product supply and an unparallel level of services” said Dr. Bernd Conrad, Linde’s Hong Kong-based General Manager Asia Pacific.

The Linde Gas Division, located in Höllriegelskreuth, Germany, is one of the leading gas suppliers worldwide, and generated sales of € 4.003 billion in 2004. It is now the Linde Group’s largest division, employing 17,500 people. Linde Gas supplies 1.5 million customers in 55 countries with very comprehensive know-how in various applications, extensive services and the surrounding hardware.
