Leoni is developing special cables for hybrid vehicles, environment sensors and processes to functionalise surfaces

Presentation of innovative products and technologies at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover

(PresseBox) (Hanover/Nuremberg, )
Leoni will present new components for vehicles with electrical, hybrid and fuel cell drive at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show. On Stand C18 in Hall 13, the wire, cable and wiring systems specialist will also display the Flamecon metallisation process, a non-contact distance warning system as well as preformed cable harnesses for engines.

At the IAA Commercial Vehicles show, Leoni presents a new distance measuring system on the stand. It is based on a non-contact environment sensor that can be integrated for sample in bumpers or side panels. In contrast to the ultrasound sensors that are currently used in park assist systems, this newly developed system cannot be seen from the outside. The sensor technology used, which is based on an electrical field, makes it possible to locate objects or people as far back as 150 cm. Truck drivers will with this technology be able in future to close the blind spots of their vehicles.

The wiring of components in vehicles with electric drive (purely electric, hybrid or fuel cell vehicles) must cope with higher voltages. Connecting the power electronics with the motor and the battery, for example, calls for shielded cables with high voltage stability to be able to transmit the required high power. As these new drive concepts will in the future also increasingly be used in commercial vehicles, Leoni has further developed the concepts and systems that are already in series production. On its stand, Leoni will display a variety of high voltage components such as cables, connectors and power distributors. Thanks to efficient processes, these products can be flexibly adapted to customer-specific requirements in the wiring systems of hybrid vehicles.

With Flamecon, Leoni has developed a metallisation process that opens up a large variety of options for functionalising surfaces. The display on the stand will show how creative technology that takes into account cost pressure, shortage of installation space and environmental protection requirements is used in commercial vehicles. A key advantage of Flamecon is that it does not require any additional electrical components that would take up space and make the vehicle heavier. Instead, existing components perform additional functions by having applied fine metal coatings to them. This enables plastic components, which previously served purely mechanical purposes, to be used for electrical functions such as heating external mirrors or transmitting signals.

Finally, Leoni will also inform about preformed cable harnesses for space and time-saving wiring of the engine, transmission and cab on its show stand. A displayed cutaway engine will illustrate how a sophisticated technology can be used to foam perfectly sealed cable conduits. These do not show the otherwise common section points, which makes production more cost effective and reduces potential sources of defect. Leoni will further exhibit various power distribution units in diverse technologies as well as the Leoni Multifuse, an innovative high voltage fuse.
