Multimedia on the high seas

MegaLine data cable from Leoni is approved by Germanische Lloyd AG and the Det Norske Veritas foundation

(PresseBox) (Stolberg, )
Leoni, the leading supplier of cable systems for the automotive sector and other industries, has received not one but two approbations for its MegaLine SeaLine 724 flex Heavy Duty data cable. Germanische Lloyd and Det Norske Veritas have given the robust 700 MHz multimedia cable their approval for shipbuilding purposes.

In modern passenger ships, it is quite usual to lay up to 1,700 km of cables for the cabling of the cabins and for the communication, entertainment, safety and supply systems. Even on freight ships, there are still up to 350 km of cables, some of which are exposed to extreme environmental conditions.

All cables used in vessel operation are subject to extremely stringent safety requirements comparable to those in force in aerospace technology. Only cables with a certificate issued by well-known classification societies such as Germanischer Lloyd or Det Norske Veritas are permitted to be installed in safety-related applications on ships.

The SeaLine MegaLine 724 flex Heavy Duty cable from Leoni is a data cable which now possesses both approbations and shows maximum suitability for all applications of classes D to F Multimedia (video, data, speech) >10 GbE acc. to IEEE 802.3 an, cable sharing, VoIP and PoE.

The cable has a strain relief structure made of Kevlar which, in addition to its very high resistance to heat and to fire, has a very high strength (400N) and is resistant to acids and bases.

The reinforced halogen-free, flame-resistant outer sheath allows installation in rough environments and complies with ships’ specification SHF1 acc. to IEC 60092-359. Another feature is its oil resistance IRM 902 acc. to IEC 60811-2-, ICEA S-73-532 (4h, 60°C).

The extreme robustness and high reliability of the cable guarantee maximum performance, even on the high seas. MegaLine SeaLine 724 flex Heavy Duty meets the requirements for passenger ships, freight and military ships and for offshore installations.

For more than 20 years now, MegaLine has been a by-word for one of the most successful brands of data cable available in Germany and Europe.
