Zur Festigkeitskontrolle optischer Fasern nach deren Bearbeitung stellt LASER COMPONENTS' Partner 3SAE zwei neue Geräte vor.

Der Linear Tensile Tester setzt Fasern mit Glasdurchmessern zwischen 30 μm und >2 mm einer linearen Zugspannung aus und testet somit deren Reißfestigkeit. Die Reißfestigkeit ist vor allem wichtig im medizinischen Umfeld und beim Einsatz der Fasern in Bereichen, in denen eine hohe Festigkeit gefordert ist, z.B. bei Unterseekabeln. So können bei der Verarbeitung der Faser auftretende Schwachstellen sicher identifiziert werden.

Der Bend Proof Tester wird für die Prüfung der Biegefestigkeit von Fasern zwischen 250 μm und 1 mm Dicke verwendet. Für jeden Faserdurchmesser lassen sich optimierte Programme erstellen und abspeichern, sodass ein objektiver und reproduzierbarer Test möglich wird und nicht wie bisher die Fingerfertigkeit des Nutzers und dessen Tagesform über das Testergebnis entscheidet.
