First Splicer with End Face Display and Ring-of-Fire Technology

Loss-free splicing of hollow-core and multi-core fibers

The FITEL S185EVROF fiber splicer is the first to combine the End-View option with Furukawa's Ring-of-Fire® technology (ROF). Distributed exclusively by LASER COMPONENTS, the device sets new standards for splicing hollow-core and multi-core fibers. Both these fiber types offer numerous advantages and are becoming increasingly popular. 

In end-view mode, mirrors provide high-resolution images of the fiber end faces. In addition to the usual side views, these allow for an even more precise fiber alignment. With multi-core fibers, for example, the position of the individual fiber cores can be precisely determined and perfectly aligned with the help of superimposed end views (composite image technology). This will ensure precise connections without signal loss, even with complex fiber types.  

At the heart of the new FITEL S185EVROF is Furukawa's proven three-electrode system with Ring-of-Fire® arc discharge. The electrodes are arranged in a triangle around the fiber and generate a ring-shaped, symmetrical plasma that heats the fiber evenly from all sides, preventing asymmetrical tension or deformation – a decisive advantage when splicing hollow-core fibers or fibers with a small cladding diameter. STA2D technology (Sequential Triangular Asymmetric Arc Discharge) provides additional precision. 

The compact, portable device supports fiber diameters from 80 μm to 800 μm and offers a rotational alignment accuracy of 0.1°. With G.652 single-mode fibers, the typical splice loss is just 0.014 dB. This makes the FITEL S185EVROF a future-proof solution for complex fiber optic infrastructures in data centers, telecommunications, research facilities and special networks.
