Dank der konkaven, holographischen Beugungsgitter konnte bei dem BLACK-Comet auf weitere optische Elemente im Strahlengang wie Umlenkspiegel verzichtet werden. Koma und der Astigmatismus konnten eliminiert werden, was die Abbildung des Spaltes auf den Detektor deutlich verbessert.
Das Ergebnis ist ein äußerst niedriger Streulichtanteil innerhalb des Spektrometers, was auch durch die holografische Herstellung des Gitters unterstützt wird.
Um Überlagerungen höherer Beugungsordnungen kürzerer Wellenlängen mit längeren Wellenlängen verhindern zu können, ist ein mehrbandiger optischer Filter fester Bestandteil des Spektrometers.
Optional kann jedes Spektrometer mit einem Trigger Eingang und/oder mit einem Thermo-elektrischen Kühler ausgestattet werden.
Bei spektral breitbandigen Anwendungen, wie es z. B. in der Farbmesstechnik oder beim Einsatz als kalibriertes Spektroradiometer der Fall ist, spielt diese Konfiguration ihre Vorteile aus. Eine weitere Stärke aufgrund der Streulichtbilanz bilden Einsatzgebiete, bei denen große Lichtmengen zu erwarten sind.
