46 light rail vehicles for üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe

(PresseBox) (Munich/Düsseldorf, )
Hanover mass transit operator üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe has taken up its second option for a further 46 Type TW3000 light rail vehicles. Delivery of all 146 units will probably be completed by the end of 2019. The high-floor LRVs are already in use on lines 3, 4 and 7 and an increasingly familiar feature of the urban landscape.

The TW300 LRVs are gradually replacing their Type TW6000 predecessors. The vehicles are designed to respond to the needs of modern and sustainable mass transit operations. With a secure driver’s cab, these light rail vehicles are built to a state-of-the-art concept, featuring for example special impact absorption and crash elements for greater passenger safety. Innovative HVAC technology and an ingenious lighting concept (warm yellow for cold days, cool blue for hot days and soothing green for vehicles on event shuttle services) generate a sense of well-being among the passengers and offer a high level of comfort. The initial order for a total of 50 LRVs was received in April 2011. After already exercising an option for a further 50 vehicles, Üstra is now taking up its second option for 46 units.

As consortium lead manager, Kiepe Electric is responsible for all of the electrical systems as well as the complete car body. With the complete drive technology and on-board power system from Kiepe Electric, these light rail vehicles feature electrical engineering that is both reliable and sophisticated. The scope of supply also covers the HVAC system for the entire passenger room and driver’s cab. Alstom supplies the bogies which, with their rubbersprung wheels, make for lower noise emissions.
